What is Notepad++

Notepad Plus is a variation on the classic Notepad application that has been greatly expanded to fit many programmers' needs. Many languages and their appropriate syntaxes are supported, allowing a coder to set the program up to meet very specific needs. Much of the interface can be altered as well, allowing for features such as line numbers, customized indentation, and different color text. Additionally, code can be run directly from Notepad Plus in a variety of environments, such as web browsers and operating system contexts. If a programmer needs specific inputs for any reason, a macro function is available as well.

Using Notepad Plus for a writing platform can make coding go much smoother, thanks to customization options. If there is a function that this cannot perform, plugins are also usable in making Notepad Plus exactly what the user needs it to be. Additionally, tab functionality allows users to keep multiple pieces of code open, allowing users to either pick out a specific piece of code to work on or examine how multiple pieces work together and affect each other.

Pros:

• Amazing functionality. Users will find many ways to work on and implement their code regardless of specifications.
• Simple format. No overreaching user interface makes it easy to get to work, once the user has customized their Notepad Plus.
• Accepting of many languages. Working on a language in one tab while another has a completely different one is a reality.
• Malleable. If something is not represented in the base version of Notepad Plus, adding it is an option whether it be a function or a new language.

Cons:

• Overwhelming. While many options exist or any user, they are all grouped together.
• Menus. All of the customization happens in drop-down menus, which can get slightly confusing and tedious.
